Meanwhile at the VA Dementia Ward

Vigil, Veterans Day

My guy has been pretty stable, but it has suddenly gotten too cold to take him outside.

He had many visitors today, including a group of singers from his church.

So not much news there; we chat, I show him photos and videos from here and there which he enjoys.

But there is a fellow in a room nearby who I have never seen awake or out of bed. He just lies there, day after day, alone.

A few visits ago, as I was leaving I glanced into that open door and saw a woman sitting by the bed, quiet and still, holding his hand between her two hands, and facing the wall.

That image of her in silent vigil seeped in, and it stays with me.
